David Doel - British Eventing

KBIS National U-21 Championship David Doel (Windsor Clive Sponsored rider) was the dominent force in this CCI2* class where, like all others at Weston Park, the combination of testing showjumping courses and the after-effects of up-to-distance cross country tracks often took their toll on the final day. He finished in first and fourth places aboard the ex-Wendy Schaeffer-ride Koyuna Sun Magic and Richoshea respectively. "I'm over the moon to have won", exclaimed David. "Although that was my objective, to be honest - I've had a cracking weekend though". He confessed that Koyuna Sun Magic hadn't given him the easiest ride across country and that finding the right bit for the hard-pulling chesnut was still a work in progress, leaving his jockey to rely on his scope at times. His ride on Richoshea, formerly the ride of Georgie Spence, was quite different: "He's quite lazy and I didn't push him across country as we're still getting to know each other - I wanted to have something left in the tank for Sunday," he said. "The showjumping caused havoc, so I'm lucky that both horses are confident showjumpers. I'm done now for the season, but I've got lots of youngsters at home to keep to me busy so I don't think there'll be much chance of a holiday!". David is currently recovering from a broken leg.
