The Croft Stables are at the heart of Upper Lambourn, accessed from the lane between Uplands Lane and Malt Shovel Lane. Access to the gallops at Mandown is well under a mile and it is only 50 yards to the bottom of the Folly Fibresand gallop.

Quick access to the M4 into London is one of Lambourn's main selling points and there are few more beautiful places to take owners than the top of the Mandown Gallops.

Lambourn village has world class vets, farriers and other services to the racing industry. There are good schools in Lambourn and also in the surrounding villages, and there is a wide variety of private education in the area. Lambourn has good village shops, and both Hungerford and Wantage are the nearest market towns.


The Croft has been a training yard for many years. In the last thirty years, John Hills, Tim Thomson-Jones and Seamus Durack have trained from the yard. When the main house was split from the yard, the head lad's cottage was more than doubled in size to create an excellent trainer's house.

The Croft Bungalow was extended and improved in 2013, and is now a comfortable house suitable for the trainer. Well appointed and with an excellent layout, it is ideal for entertaining owners - much of the ground floor is a generous kitchen/ sitting room and yet there are 3 other rooms plus a utility room on that floor. 

The first floor has 3 bedrooms an ensuite shower room and a bathroom.

There is a sheltered garden at the back of the house. 

The Training Yard

From the trainer's house:

On the left is the Utility Building with mess room, racing tack room, general tack and medical room.

On the right is the horsewalker

Yard 1. 16 boxes. 2 ranges each of 8 boxes of brick under tiled roofs

Yard 2. 15 boxes. A 3 bay Dutch Barn, 2 ranges, one of 6 boxes, and one of 9 boxes of brick under a tiled roof.

The 9 box range also has a WC and an office, with a cloakroom and sink unit.

Yard 3. 12 boxes. 2 ranges each of 6 boxes with a former office by the gate onto Uplands Lane. Note; one of these ranges is severely dilapidated and requires substantial work.

From M4 Junction 14 take the A338 towards Wantage and then the first left, B4000 past the Pheasant Inn for 4 miles. Turn right opposite the Hare Inn to Lambourn. On reaching the village turn left, right and left again towards Upper Lambourn. Pass the veterinary hospital and turn right into Uplands Lane. At the bottom of the hill turn left. The entrance is on the left.
